Back to Calendar PINEWOOD DERBY!! ChangePoint MatSu is so excited to be announcing our second annual Pinewood Derby! A Pinewood Derby race is an event in which small, wooden cars are raced down a specially designed track using only the force of gravity for power. The Pinewood Derby is set to be held at ChangePoint MatSu on October 11th. We have a limited number of Derby Kits available for purchase for $5 (cash only) if you are interested. See Chanel on Sunday's or email her at chanelp@changepointalaska.com Car Check-in time: 5:30pm – 6:20pm Races starts at 6:30pm We will have multiple classes - and everyone is welcome to participate! Each participant will need to provide their own Pinewood Derby race car, and follow certain restrictions, such as weights. See rules and details below! Race Classes: Preschool Class | 1st – 5th Grade Class | Teenage Class | Adult Class Rules: • Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches (including wheels). • Length shall not exceed 7 inches. • The maximum height of the car cannot exceed 5 inches. • Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces. • Axles, wheels, and body shall be from the materials provided in the kit. • Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited. • The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels. • No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite or silicone. • The car shall not ride on any kind of spring. • The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices. • No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car. • The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired. • The car body may have no moving parts. • Details such as the steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and weight specifications. • Cars must be powered by gravity only! • Owners Name must be displayed on bottom of car.
